Hi all; Another Rambus article from EE-Times:

Complaints (somewhat outside my area of specialty) about Rambus packaging non-standardization. This may be news for those who thought that Rambus is about standardizing memories...

Memory's dizzying demands squeeze vendors
Different construction methods, pin placements and package outlines, including variations in package thickness, are among the factors that vastly complicate Rambus burn-in socket design and send tooling costs skyrocketing as companies try to accommodate all variations. "This is another case where the semiconductor industry adds cost to the testing process by the very nature of the architecture and the type of packages it creates," said Dudinski.
