WAYYY OFF TOPIC ( and apologies) - could use home computer windows 98 Pentium 3 expertise of any on board willing to comment ( Mike sounds like you have had enough tech adventures for the day). If any comment, please do so by private message, I am wasting enough OT space here.
Some friends of mine - too far away for me to drop by and help- just bought a new Gateway. Their concern is that they didn't get the components they paid for. Hard drive supposed to be a 9 gig at 7200 rpm. My Computer on their system lists capacity as 8.47 and Gateway's 8.4 gig drive operates at 5400 rpm instead. They thought they bought a 450 Pentium 3 processor...windows says its a 450 Pentium 2mmx ( but maybe windows wouldn't recognize a 3..or maybe it is reading the motherboard instead of processor). Anyway know a foolproof method- short of opening case...these people aren't skilled with stuff like that ...at determining what exactly is inside of the machine? What rpm the hard drive is operating with? They do want to get- understandably - what they paid for. Thanks in advance ( I still have windows 95 ..have never used 98).
