0030 GMT, 990609 - Russian military officials will
propose to their U.S. counterparts on Wednesday
that Russian peacekeeping troops be given their
own sector in Kosovo. "We are not against the
presence in our sector of peacekeeping soldiers
from neutral countries or those of the
Commonwealth of Independent States," a
defense ministry official said. However, Russia is
against NATO troops that were involved in
bombing Yugoslavia being deployed in an area
under Russian control. According to Russian
Defense officials, Russia wants to deploy
peacekeeping troops in the northern part of
Kosovo, which borders Serbia.
