I sure wish I knew the answers. I have a technical background, but I am not an expert on semiconductor physics or chip engineering/production. My guess is that the ECD tech is superior overall, based on both generalities and the fact that Tyler Lowery has joined ECD (he IS an expert - one of the world's best, I have heard, for developing manufacturing methods and systems for chips).

ECD calls their memory cell "OUM" for Ovonic Univeral Memory - they think it is a strong contender for all memory uses. Their tech is apparently compatible with ordinary logic chip fabrication processes, so their memory cells could easily be incorporated onto logic chips.

The Hitachi PLEDM puzzles me. I think maybe the second transistor merely allows a smaller capacitor to be used. I do not see why the PLEDM memory cell would be non-volatile. If it is a volatile memory, then it would have limited applications. The magnetic memory devices used by the other contenders are inherently more complicated than the resistive OUM elements. And, IMO, there are yet unresolved problems with fabricating the various magnetic devices. However, I certainly have no basis for ruling out any of the approaches.
