BBK'S WELTEKE SAYS HE'S OPPOSED TO BUNDESBANK GOLD SALES
Frankfurt--Jun 9--Bundesbank President-designate Ernst Welteke cautiously argued

some of the countries that should benefit from it was unclear. Also, he added
that "we should rather wait and see whether we need the gold reserves for other
purposes." (Story .22217)

JAPAN TOCOM APR GOLD HITS CONTRACT LOW DESPITE HEAVY BUY
Tokyo--Jun 9--Tokyo Commodity Exchange Apr gold closed the morning session at a
contract low of 997 yen per gram, the first tumble below 1,000 yen since its
launch in 1982, dragged down by spot gold's drop below US $262 per ounce
overnight and the US dlr/yen's sharp fall, dealers said. However, heavy bargain
hunting below the key 1,000 yen per gram level continued to underpin TOCOM gold
futures prices, they said. (Story .10268)

REPEATS:ECB TOTAL GOLD ASSETS DN 16 MLN EUROS ON TECH TRANSACTION
Frankfurt--Jun 8--Total gold assets registered by the European Central Bank
system were down 16 million euros at 105.307 billion euros in the week ending
Jun 4, the ECB said today in its weekly financial statement. The decrease was
caused by the unwinding of a technical transaction between two central banks
that had taken place at the end of 1998 in connection with the subsequent
transfer of foreign reserve assets to the ECB, it said. In addit
ion, foreign currency assets were unchanged on the week at 234.2 billion euros
on Jun 4, the ECB said. (Story .782)
