Intertainer and SeaChange Join Forces for Entertainment-On-Demand Delivery to Set-Tops Deployable Large-Scale System Promises Enhanced Flexibility for Cable Customers
CULVER CITY, Calif., and MAYNARD, Mass., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Intertainer Inc. and SeaChange International, Inc. announced today that the two companies have integrated Intertainer's entertainment-on-demand functionality with SeaChange's comprehensive ITV System platform to enable service on Scientific-Atlanta's Explorer 2000 digital set-top box. The companies will demonstrate the system at the NCTA Cable '99 show next week in Chicago.
"Intertainer selected the ITV System for delivery of its service to the Scientific-Atlanta set-top box because SeaChange has a thorough understanding of both digital video systems and of cable operator business requirements," said Jonathan Taplin, Intertainer co-founder and co-chief executive officer. "Intertainer and SeaChange are working together using standards-based architectures to provide cable operators a new option that combines SeaChange's scalable video server-based platform with Intertainer's entertainment-on-demand service."
"With Intertainer, SeaChange is enabling delivery of an immense catalog of entertainment titles to consumers on demand. We're pleased to be selected as a primary Intertainer preferred platform," said Yvette Gordon, director of interactive technologies, SeaChange International. "We look forward to working together to fulfill the broadband entertainment needs of cable operators today and in the future."
The SeaChange ITV System has been developed as a standard-based platform to ensure interoperability, competitive low prices and smooth integration. Easily scalable, it is a comprehensive video-on-demand system based on the company's proven MediaCluster server architecture and master control center- based software suite, enabling highly automated ITV operation and end-to-end fault tolerance. The server is scalable to support headend or cable hub installation, which reduces the network bandwidth required for delivering high-quality long-form digital video files.
