Hi Blanky>>More news!!!... Seriously undervalued..now the news.. GetMedia Partners With WebRadio.com to Provide Integrated E-Commerce and Streaming Audio Solution for Internet Radio Broadcasting Business Wire - June 09, 1999 11:18 SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 1999--
Radio Stations Can Generate Revenue by Offering Listeners Real-Time Radio Broadcast and Music Buying
GetMedia Inc. today announced a strategic partnership with WebRadio.com that will enable radio stations to broadcast and sell music simultaneously over the Internet using the combined power of GetMedia's new e-commerce technology and WebRadio.com's Internet broadcast service. GetMedia's technology, which works within a radio station's Web home page, displays song titles in real-time as the station plays them and lets listeners simply click on a title to buy a CD.
GetMedia will integrate its technology into WebRadio.com's Java-based streaming audio player and offer its e-commerce solution to WebRadio.com's more than 90 radio station affiliates.
Listeners will be able hear their favorite radio station broadcast over the Internet, see "What's Playing Now" information and buy the CD they're listening to, all without leaving the radio station's Web site.
"The two technologies really complement each other," said Robert Goldman, founder, chairman and CEO of GetMedia. "Without any additional up-front investment, WebRadio.com's radio station affiliates will be able to create an integrated online broadcast and e-commerce presence that will generate a new revenue stream of music sales, promote the radio station and build a solid Web community. At the same time, listeners will get a complete, easy-to-use listen-and-buy experience."
Greg Verdino, vice president and general manager of Internet Information Services at Arbitron NewMedia, expects that 25% of the U.S. population will listen to Internet radio by the year 2000.
GetMedia launched on May 11, 1999 on San Francisco's KLLC-FM, known as Alice @ 97.3, part of Infinity Broadcast Corp (NYSE:INF). In addition to teaming with WebRadio.com, GetMedia has signed a deal with Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch (Nasdaq:TMCS) to provide GetMedia technology to its radio station partners.
In total, more than 130 radio stations now have the option of incorporating GetMedia's e-commerce technology as they develop their online sales and broadcast strategies. GetMedia and WebRadio.com have agreed to promote their joint services to their existing as well as future client base.
"By partnering together, WebRadio.com and GetMedia can offer radio stations a full turnkey solution that can be quickly and easily implemented," said Michael Weiss, vice president and general manager of WebRadio.com, which is based in Woodland Hills, California. "This will allow their listeners to identify what songs are currently being broadcast on the radio, hear the broadcast over the Internet and click to purchase that artist's CD. Nothing could be easier for both the listener or the radio station operator."
GetMedia's technology addresses the frustration that many radio listeners feel when they hear a song on the radio but don't know the name of the group, song title, or CD. With GetMedia, listeners can simply go to the radio station's Web site, browse the play list, see what is currently playing and click the "buy" button to purchase any music broadcast within the last 60 minutes.
GetMedia's technology is a Java-based application that easily embeds in a radio station's Web homepage. GetMedia handles all installation, orders, customer service and fulfillment on behalf of the radio station. The radio station receives a percentage of revenue from CD sales within its site.
GetMedia will also include concurrent advertising in future offerings. It also plans to offer a 1-800 phone number so that consumers can buy music from any touch-tone phone.
