RESTON, Va.--(BW HealthWire)--June 9, 1999--Integrated Healthcare Systems, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: IGHS) announced today that it has reached two year agreement with MCI WorldCom, Inc. (Nasdaq:WCOM) to be the Internet/Intranet/Virtual Private Network Provider for all the statewide hospital networks being built by Integrated Healthcare Systems, Inc. UUNET, MCI Worldcom's Internet division will provide the services that allow Integrated to provide fast, reliable connectivity to hospitals and their affiliated organizations using Integrated's I-Link(sm) Enterprise connectivity systems. Through the use of Integrated's intelligent nodes, statewide networks of hospitals will use the MCI Worldcom's UUNET network to collect in-patient and outpatient clinical data, encrypt and transmit this data to designated central data warehouses. To date, Integrated has signed contracts to connect 85 hospitals in Alabama and 189 hospitals in Ohio. Under the terms of the deal, MCI Worldcom will connect each participating Integrated Healthcare Systems hospital with dial-up access to a central database. MCI Worldcom will provide routing technology for Integrated Healthcare Systems to create a system-wide intranet and virtual private network using tunneling technology so that hospitals can securely transfer and retrieve patient information.
