Vendit:

What happens to the revenue streams of some of the local telcos like Bell Atlantic when they have to face (for the first time) some real competition on their local rates?

I have 2 lines from Bell Atlantic, cost around $120/month because they have this monopoly where you have to pay either per minute or per call (a la European billing) -- that's more than I pay for long distance per month from Matrix Telecom. In contrast, when I lived in AZ I had three lines, flat rate and lots of extras from US West for around $60/month.

I wonder what will happen to the analysts' recommendations and upgrades for some of these local telcos when the Bell Atlantics of the world confront the unpleasant fact that their revenue streams from local phone service are about to be chopped in half?
