Don't kid yourself about the effects of rising rates. RCSW has been particularly cavalier in their recent comments. The market is priced currently with the expectation of 0% rates, i.e. rates don't matter. Extended bull market action causes those who have no experience with rising rates (99% of all investors) to quaintly discount the effects. It is easy to hand wave them away, but when they hit, though there is staunch prejudice towards holding stock, the sand goes out from under your feet. Rallies are brief and then fail finding new lows. It takes a year of this grinding action before people conclude that "oh my god, we're in a bear market". At that point portfolios are down 20%, but the public doesn't start selling until they are down 30% which convinces them to renounce the dedication to the long term.
