NP says Anthem Real Estate, others see their stocks rise
International Properties Group Ltd IPX Shares issued 33,352,562 1999-06-08 close $1.1 Wednesday Jun 9 1999 See TrizecHahn Corp (TZH) In the News The National Post reports in its Wednesday edition that, for almost a year, top executives at giant real estate companies such as TrizecHahn Corp. and Cadillac Fairview Corp. have lamented the unwillingness of the market to pay attention to their stories. "The capital markets just don't like real estate these days," says Eric Carlson, president of Anthem Properties in Vancouver. "And in particular, they hate small-cap real estate companies." But, though thinly traded and the subject of infrequent conversation on Bay Street, Anthem and International Properties Group are two of several small-cap real estate firms whose stock prices have been climbing recently. Another is Acanthus Real Estate Corp. For companies like these, and numerous other that have gone public in the past three years, the example of Boardwalk Equities Inc. stands out as a shining example of what might be. Calgary-based Boardwalk has created a growing empire of high-quality residential apartment buildings in Western Canada, and its shareholders saw stock prices climb to almost $24 from $1 between 1995 and 1998.
