Siemens Nixdorf Teams With Verity to Market Verity's Search97
Information Server with the Siemens Nixdorf RM Server Product Line

Relationship Expands Siemens Nixdorf Internet/Intranet Product Line To Offer Users
Search and Retrieval Capabilities

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1997--Verity, Inc., a leading provider of search and
retrieval applications for the enterprise, the Internet/Intranet, and Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems AG, a
systems partner with expertise in the field of information technology, have announced the signing of an
agreement whereby Verity and Siemens Nixdorf will jointly market Verity's SEARCH '97 Information Server as
a package solution with Siemens Nixdorf's RM UNIX Server product family and its Intel-based Primergy
servers.

The product combinations covered by the agreement are scheduled to ship by the end of April, 97.

Under the agreement, the SEARCH97 Information Server will be available bundled with the Netscape Suite Spot
Server, and as a package solution with the Siemens Nixdorf UNIX-servers from the RM product family or the
Intel-based Primergy servers. In a limited version, the Verity SEARCH '97 Information Server will also be
available as a stand-alone product. The Verity SEARCH97 Information Server is designed to run on the
Siemens Nixdorf Primergy or server under Windows NT, and on Siemens Nixdorf RM-Systems under Reliant
UNIX.

According to Siemens Nixdorf, the decision to choose Verity was made primarily on the basis of the company's
position as the leading vendor of Internet search engines. "In licensing Verity's Information Server, we see a
meaningful addition to and expansion of our Internet/Intranet product line in the RM/Primergy hardware
offerings," emphasized, Robert Hoog, head of Siemens Nixdorf's Middleware Department and senior
management member of the Line of Business Open Enterprise Computing (OEC). "The decisive advantages the
agreement brings, as well as its partners, clients and Intranet and Internet users, are readily evident." "As an
Internet solution provider, Siemens Nixdorf now offers its clients yet another valuable tool," he added.

"The new Verity Information Server breaks through the boundaries of conventional search engines. The era of
beyond search has begun," said Luc Loos, sales program manager at Siemens Nixdorf. "We feel that the
cooperation with Verity is the beginning of a strategic partnership in search and retrieval."

"Siemens Nixdorf is a major worldwide supplier of IT products with whom we are pleased to partner," said
Philippe Courtot, chairman and CEO of Verity. "The synergy between Siemens Nixdorf and Verity products will
provide customers with a state-of-the-art IT solution."

First and foremost, Siemens Nixdorf clients will benefit from an Internet product that allows users to obtain a
complete system solution, including RM with Netscape, Intranet solutions, Livelink and Verity technology, in
addition to comprehensive consulting services from a single source at Siemens Nixdorf. At present, more than
100 Fortune 500 companies and several million users are leveraging Verity products. Siemens Nixdorf regards
this agreement as a valuable asset that will enhance the corporation's reputation as a competent partner able to
assist clients in developing complete Internet and Intranet solutions.
