Vodafone Group Makes Highest Bid for Hungarian Phone License Bloomberg News June 9, 1999, 12:31 a.m. PT Budapest, June 9 (Bloomberg) -- A group comprising the U.K.'s Vodafone Plc, AirTouch Communications Inc. of the U.S. and Germany's RWE Telliance made the highest bid for a license to start Hungary's third mobile phone network, Hungarian daily Napi Gazdasag reported, citing unnamed members of the government panel considering the bids. The license attracted bids of more than 40 billion forint ($170 million), the paper said. The group is one of three foreign companies biding for the license. The other two bidders for the license in a second round of the competition are Orange Hungaria, made up of the U.K.'s Orange Plc and Callahan Associates and CG Sat-Mannesmann Eurokom. (
