Mexico's Penoles sees full output at Torreon plant
GUADALAJARA, Mexico, June 8 (Reuters) - Mexico's Penoles <PENOLES.MX>, one of the world's biggest silver producers, said on Tuesday it expected to have a north Mexican plant back at full steam by the end of the week after having been ordered to halve output because of a lead-poisoning epidemic.
Luis Rey Delgado, community relations director of the refinery in the northern desert town of Torreon, Coahuila state, said the company hoped environmental contingency measures imposed May 21 would end Friday.
"We hope that on Friday they will lift phase two (of the contingency measures)," Rey Delgado said.
The output cut was imposed after more than 1,000 children living near the plant were found to have dangerously high levels of lead in their blood.
In addition, Penoles has undertaken to clear up the environment and reduce emissions at the Torreon refinery, which produces refined silver, lead, bismuth and gold.

Obviously the lead thing is hurting. You are right in the long haul though--technology is already being put in place to alleviate the lead pollution threat.
I'm still holding. Meantime the antiseptic silver idea is better than nothing as the Cane Springs mine ain't gonna produce under $300 an oz gold. --Al |
