I believe the market makers determined that continued profitability for several of the high tech firms was small on the upside. By driving the stock down they can convince many smaller traders that can not afford the correction to cut their losses. The MM can therefore profit on the downside. When MM's can not crash anymore people out, the bulls will run again. This is their ball game, we (the small speculative traders) just trade the gum cards. We can either bite and sell or bite and hold for the earnings report and the stock split.
