Fortune's list merely includes Apple on both the G3 400 and the iMac 333. No breaking news here.

Of course it's not breaking news. That's the beauty -- and the point -- of posting it. I thought someone might take the time to scroll down that list and check the price/performance of Apple compared to the other machines on the list. Also note that none of the other machines are able to run MacOS, which is invaluable.

The idea is that Apple is hanging with the big boys, or at least the respected boys. And of course anyone who's been following Apple knows that lists of this sort are increasingly meaningless as consumers wake up to the Mac; the differences between the Apple and Wintel worlds have never been the things lists are made of.

But I'm happy to let Apple's financial performance relative to its peers do the talking.

The print version of that issue is even more striking. It's hard to relate in mere words how strikingly ugly Wintel boxes are next to Apple's most recent offerings.
