rude: The separate values of Burroughs and Sperry were savaged. I think it's a little glib to say Unisys was weak and its market was dying, altho looking back you can make that argument. At the time of the merger, the future didn't look quite so cut and dried, as I recall. That was the mid-80s -- took a decade for the company to turn around. As far as CPQ squandering and debasing resources, it blew its Alpha advantage. And its blowing Alta Vista. The parallel with Unisys is clear: similar ill-considered huge mergers; inept integration; musical chairs in the exec suites; flight of key players. What is CPQ doing to stop the bleeding? M2
