AP-Dow Jones News Service -- March 17, 1997 Mexico Tribasa Gets Chile Pan-American Road Contract SANTIAGO (AP-Dow Jones)--Mexico's Tribasa SA (E.GTR) won the bidding to improve and operate a 161-kilometer stretch of the Pan American Highway in southern Chile, a Ministry of Public Works official said Monday. Alejandro Magni, chief executive of Tribasa Chile, said the company will invest $250 million in the highway. The government previously said it would award the concession to the company offering the longest contract term with the lowest tolls. Tribasa's bid was for a 22-year concession with a maximum toll of 1,000 pesos to cover the entire 161-kilometer route. Tribasa must now present the Ministry of Public Works its specific plans for improving the highway, which connects the cities of Chillan and Collipulli.
