I can't figure this one out, either. I am convinced that there is
a market, and a big one, for providing the substrate for companies
to build applications that they serve over intranets and, of course,
to the world at large. And it's possible that outsourcing
applications could make sense for smaller companies. I don't
understand the current enterprise applications well enough to know
if they can be used without extensive customization and training.
That really seems to me to be the crux, since renting the app if you
get the administration of the hardware and software for free can be
a win for all concerned provided economies of scale can apply.
