A New Breed of American Gamblers

Wed Jun 9 1999

Fifteen years ago, gambling in America took some travelling effort unless you lived in Las Vegas or Atlantic City--but times change. Gaming author John Gollehon writes: "Instead of flying to Vegas for five days, more and more players are driving to a nearby casino for five hours." And there are plenty of destinations--over 600 casinos now dot America's landscape. Even gambling habits have changed. "You see fewer players at the $10- and $25-minimum tables today than in the past. If the casinos don't open up more $5 tables, they'll have more players watching than playing," says Gollehon.
