They quit making regular issue coins at the SF mint in 1955.
Then began making proof sets there in 1968.
Started making pennies for circulation there again in 1968.
I think the reason they quit making regular issue there is there was no need for the third mint. I believe it is much smaller and not as up to date so its limited production wasn't missed.
I believe all the new proof statehood quarters will be "S" mint.
