Jason, FunPhone was an April Fool's gag. Seriously, go back and go to all of the links. It is hilarious. I hear that there was some really bright people involved with the gag<g>

What INNF is proposing is to offer long distance calls at cheap rates by taking normal circuit switched calls and compressing the voice to (likely) 1/8 the normal bandwidth and sending them across as IP packets. Slightly different than what you said, but material. The issue isn't the phone or the computer, it is the Internet (with an uppercase "I"). There is no way to guarantee the quality of service or the delivery of the Voice IP packets over the Data IP packets. This is mandatory for real time communications (humans are not very tolerant of, computers can be very tolerant). Think of it this way: Have you every clicked on a URL and had to wait for 5, 10, 30 seconds for the download of data? Would you be willing to wait that long in the middle of a phone call? (the answer is no, trust me).

However, Internet fax is a very viable business model today as you can spoof the fax machines into ignoring the delay. I assure you that INNF is late to the game at this point for this service.

If INNF is confused about the terminology, that would be a red flag as to their qualifications to pull of this endeavor.
