GOLD'S DIVE FAILS TO TRIGGER JAPAN PRIVATE INVESTORS' BUYING
Tokyo--Jun 10--This week's dive in gold prices below 1,100 yen per gram has not
yet triggered massive bargain hunting by Japanese private investors as earlier
expected, traders said today. Many investors are waiting for a further fall in
retail gold prices in Japan before rushing to buy retail gold bars, they said.

MERRILL LYNCH CUTS GOLD DOWNSIDE TARGET BY $10 TO $240/OZ
New York--Jun 9--Bill O'Neill, director of futures trading for Merrill Lynch,
today cut his downside target for gold for the next 3 months by $10 to $240 an
ounce. O'Neill said he cut his target to put it more "in line with market
performance." Gold prices continued to take a beating today,
falling to yet another 20-year low and Aug slipping below $260 psychological
support to hit a contract low of $259.20 an ounce. (Story .21418)

TRADERS: ROMANIA SEEKS GOLD-COLLATERALIZED LOAN FROM CSFB
Bucharest--Jun 9--Romania seeks a gold-collateralized loan of roughly $300
million from Credit Suisse First Boston, after the negative pledge on its gold
reserves was partly lifted through the reimbursement of a samurai bond on May
28, dealers said today. Central bank officials said they could not confirm it
