Hi, TOA! So far, the other respondents have answered the question you pose reasonably well. From talking with Red Hat as well as reading the trade "buzz," the company has tried to make it clear in the marketplace that it is not trying to make money off Linux but from consulting and providing services. You don't even have to get Linux from Red Hat to contract for the company's services in keeping all the changes up to date and providing applications.
