Nortel Networks said it's the first vendor to commit to wireless Internet solutions that have the reliability and quality of traditional telephone networks. "We're delivering wireless Internet through a new paradigm," said Matt Desch, president of wireless solutions for Nortel. The cost per megabit will drop from 37 cents now to about 4 cents in 2004. Desch said the company is optimistic it'll meet financial projections for 1999 despite a rough first quarter. He also said the company is pleased with negotiations among networks internationally to set wireless Net standards.
