Peter,

Obviously I wasn't EXPECTING a 50% jump. Just one of my rules of trading. Many of those around like:

Never start a position larger than 5% of my portfolio value (2% for smaller stocks or stocks with unusually low float)

Never let it grow to more than 10% (4% for the smaller stocks above).

Re-evaluate and usually close a position after 20% loss of value (50% for smaller stocks, which tend to be more volatile, but are also always smaller positions).

I will make exceptions, especially with larger, well followed stocks. (Did I really want to "cut off" my CSCO when it passed 10% on a strong upwards trajectory? Of course not. Eventually the timing looked better so I did, pretty close to the peak, but I'm willing to be a little "loose" about immediate enforcement of the rules.)

Of course, these rules are one of the reasons that all the rambling about "the shorts getting killed" just doesn't apply here. If CCSI had doubled, I would have been out at most 1.5% of my portfolio value on the trade.

Diversity, discipline, success...
