The point is that it indeed does, as systems do not often have such critical nodes or so-called weak links. Tell me this, in the early 90's did you use to stay awake at night worrying about whether a certain widely used O/S was going to crash and blow up such a critical node? If not, why the worry about Y2K today? Because the media wants you to?
