I'm not knowledgeable about shorting,
but when unclewest ran that little computation
of the "number of shares available to short",
it didn't make sense to me.

My understanding is that if shares
are held in street name,
brokerages can commingle them,
and lend them to shorts for short sale.

So, who's to say that the institutional holdings mentioned,
just by example, by uncle's reckoning, about 11.7 million shares,
is, so to speak, off the table,
and therefore actually and in fact unavailable to shorts?

Can someone clarify?

George
