Why the K6-III might catch a second wind:
1. Higher MHz -- apparently the 500 MHz K6-III uses a tweaked design with a 2.2v core. If there's no 500 MHz K6-2, it will sell. If they can hit 550 MHz before Intel hits 600 on the PeeIII, it will sell very well.
2. Tweaked drivers -- the few systems that were tested in magazines were benchmarked with poor video card drivers, leading to the conclusion that a PeeIII system was better for gaming and graphics. New TNT and TNT2 drivers now make the K6-III equivalent in gaming to the PeeIII.
3. More parts -- most OEM's did not offer or push K6-III systems because they couldn't be guaranteed an adequate quantity. This is a catch-22 because if CPQ, HWP and IBM are not pushing K6-III systems, there won't be any demand either.
