Regarding your statement:

"" It appears that CMTO has an advantage in systems that are one-way cable (downstream) with a wireline follow on connection (upstream) and then can be upgraded to two way. ""

This is seriously dated "info" - Might want to check your sources, as CMTO doesn't build such a system. As far as I can recall, this scheme was cancelled prior to production in 1994.

The investment in clean high-capacity bandwidth has a fast payback for most MSO's with the concurrent increase in premium and pay-per-view channels, as well as tiered QoS, a significant profit opportunity. In real estate, it's location location location. In cable, it's bandwidth bandwidth bandwidth.

Com21's singular ability to carry voice over IP is very persuasive, as is their ability to provide fully-secure wide area networking for the SOHO markets. What is CISCO-compliant hardware worth to the purchasing decision ? A safe decision for any network administrator IMO !
