another story that I'm having trouble interpreting.

Did WFR:

1. Buy a software application for use within their own company?
2. Buy a software company to have another product / service to sell to customers / attract customers with?
3. Something completely different?

DJ MEMC Elec Materials Buys Optimization Software

PLEASANTON, Calif. (Dow Jones)--MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. (WFR) acquired Factroy Commander, an advanced factory cost optimization software, from Wright Williams & Kelly, a cost-reduction modeling and simulation firm.

In a press release Thursday, MEMC said the software will initially be used in the U.S. and Japan to help optimize 300-millimeter wafer process design.

Shares of MEMC Electronic were recently trading at 10 1/8, up 1 1/8, or 12.5%, on volume of 365,900 shares. Average daily volume is 71,761 shares.
