So the US is expected to run the show since Europeans can't trust Germans, and Germans can't trust themselves?
Perhaps Germany could have a strong army and sane politicians... and lead Europe.
That just might work. It seems funny that the US had to fight this balkans war... especially with all of the continental europeans "balking" at the prospect. Only Blair sitting back on his island was a big cheerleader.
What is it with you guys that you'll use any excuse not to clean up your own messes?
In a way Truedog is right... you always seem to count on the US for leadership in critical situations, yet culturally you thumb your noses at us.
Truthfully, I don't think there is any real answer to all of this, going forward. Europeans outside of Germany will never trust the Germans again, and the US will keep feeding you questionable policies, and you will keep trying to manipulate the US in various fashions, and India and Pakistan will snarl at each other, and Israel will remain under seige in the Middle east, and much of the rest of the world will plod along in starvation and misery, and Americans will pretend like all that matters is their AOL stock, then the whole thing will come crashing down, and the vast majority of people will once again be fed a bunch of lies, ad infinitum.
It would be nice if Christ were to return today, but hey... let's watch some expensive fireworks and assorted political/social chicanery... along with all of the attendant human misery these things bring... in the meantime.
Having said all that, I must quote someone I admire, a veteran of the North African campaigns, Anzio, Southern France, and then on into Germany... while he walked the earth he once said to me - not once but twice as if to emphasize - "It's a wonderful world."
...and it is a wonderful world, no matter how cynical or depressed a person gets.
