Wall Street Wagering Hits the Net

Wed Jun 10 1999

Today's stock trade over the Internet provides a new way to gamble-- one that the NGISC and Senator Jon Kyl neglected to include in their proposals to ban Internet gambling. In fact, stock-trading and gambling are appealing in such similar ways that sites like Betonwallstreet.com and others ask: instead of investing in stocks, why not simply bet on the stock market's ups and downs? Patrick Ralls, a 25-year-old California entrepreneur, opened the Betonwallstreet.com web site a few weeks ago. Ralls explains: "It's a new type of bet for people who have always been sports bettors, and a new thing for people who follow Wall Street to think about. It combines the two genres."
The Boston Globe has the story.
