Merrill's morning comments on EMC:

"HWP is claiming a high win rate in storage vs EMC.

"Yesterday we met with HWP's storage management. As HWP is not really selling EMC anymore, EMC is going after those accounts.

"HWP believes it is winning 40% of the time vs EMC, high, in our view.

"HWP still believes it is going to take 3 quarters to return to its previous rate of storage in terms of revenues.

"If this 40% is true, we think it would be negative for EMC and could potentially impact EMC's revenues.

"We spoke with EMC who stated that its loss rate vs HWP was actually in the single digit range. EMC believes HWP is giving away a lot of storage asking customers to try it for 90 days. We think it may be possible that HWP is shipping much product but not getting paid for it.

"EMC indicated its quarter is very much on track and continues to believe that Y2K will not impact the company.

"We reiterate our Buy rating on EMC shares, particularly on weakness."
