Con-men like Dunavant worked to separate fools from their money. There were three parties involved: the perpetrators like Dunavant, the individual investors who got suckered, and shortsellers who saw it coming. It's easy to understand the shortsellers. We spotted a probable fraud, and we made a bet that it would be found out. If there's anybody who should be difficult to understand, it is the perpetrators. What causes men to cheat other men?
