Joe - SONY, Panasonic, etc. would probably use their OWN flash memory operating system than pay royalties to use someone else's. The question is: Do they have an OS, or are they working on one.

If they have their own flash memory operating systems, they will not be as efficient/fast without the use of MicroOs.

Theirs would probably not be able to be easily modified to incorporate the SDMI standard; therefore, they would be better off to use MicroOS.

All Players will require a Control Program (firmware on a chip) (aka Operating system) to control the device & communicate with buttons, switches, etc.
If they don't have a program that can efficiently handle flash memory & the SDMI standard, it would be to their advantage to use EDIG's MicroOS; otherwise, they may infringe on a patent.

To me, the main question would be "Will it be Flash Memory or something else?".
Right now, it appears to be flash memory... Sony has a 'memory stick' & I don't know what it's made-up of.

Bottom line: EDIG is nicely positioned to participate in the complete market without regard to any particular codec.
To say nothing about the other things such as Lanier-type devices, cell phones, & stuff we haven't even thought of yet.

Of course, all of this is the result of my speculative imagination playing with my mind.___:)
