Dee Jay, it's water under the bridge, but there is no doubt that Mory sought to mislead investors. I don't know where I saw the "desk-top" quote, so I'll with-draw that. However, there are many mis-represtations made in the original Ascend press release, of which I high-light here. How about "end-user"? Does that not insinuate "desk-top"?

The solution, based on Rockwell's 56kbps technology, called K56PLUS, and the Ascend MAX WAN access switch architecture, will allow ISPs to market high-speed 56kbps transmission services to analog-based end-users and customers, while providing support for the full complement of integrated WAN services already available on Ascend MAX and MAX TNT platforms -- conventional analog, ISDN, SW56, and frame relay. The product is expected to ship in January 1997. [I recently read in some cyber-rag that ROK has met every dead-line for delivery so far. Perhaps, but Ascend sure has not. They are 2 months late already!]

"Ascend plans to be the first remote access vendor to actually deliver on the promise of 56kbps technology," said Mory Ejabat, Ascend president and CEO. "We believe this technology can open the door for a new generation of high-performance Internet and remote-access applications, so our goal is to provide the most robust implementation and the earliest deployment. Through our partnership with Rockwell, we are not just the first vendor to deliver this technology, but, more significantly, we have delivered the right technical solution [Huh? Is this not misleading, to imply that Ascend has already accomplished the goal of being first? Sorry Dee Jay, but you've been lied to.] for a very complex transmission challenge."
