I dunno, sounds like Paul's being a little sarcastic don't you think? Especially when you consider his last sentence where he refers to the other rumors of AMD, Intel, and 'others' buying S3. But it would appear to be quite a scary match - to competitors anyway. We'd have a vertically integrated graphics company like ATI....but!! it would have outstanding product offerings at every level of the market.
