rinv, This is their description of, where GSPN stands in the
DSL world.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
GlobeSpan Semiconductor offers the industry's most widely used transceiver technology for low-cost, high-performance RADSL, SDSL and HDSL service. Modems developed with these transceivers are capable of transferring data over standard telephone copper wire at speeds up to 200 times faster than today's popular V.34 modems.

Globespan has over 100 customers representing more than 80% of the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) market. Based on 1997 results, Globespan is the world's largest supplier of DSL modem chipsets.

Globespan's founding technical team began developing advanced modem algorithms and a DSL optimized, billion operations per second (BOPS), software downloadable, digital signal processor (DSP) in 1988 at AT&T Bell Labs. Globespan's fourth generation technology and five years of field experience in delivering commercially deployable DSL solutions has been the primary driver behind the Company's success.

Today, Globespan is the only supplier offering production quantities of a family of products for all DSL segments (ADSL, HDSL, SDSL, RADSL) to leading communications equipment manufacturers and service providers worldwide.
--------------------------------------------------------------------- I believe that they also supply chip sets for Paradyne's offerings.
Paradyne (their Lucent cousin) will be going public soon.

This link to the Westell thread describes Paradyne's newest offering
( seems that it's frequency range is superior to ADSL Lite, while
retaining some of the advantages of ADSL Lite.

Don't know if Globespan makes the chip set for that product.
But they recently announced a chip set for very long lines.

Best,
Mardy.
