IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT COMPUTERS. It's about people.
The Center for Y2K and Society works with nonprofit organizations and foundations to respond to the serious societal impacts resulting from the Y2K computer problem.

GRANTS ARE AVAILABLE. Following are sample project ideas.

Evaluate the state of preparedness of critical infrastructure organizations such as electric, gas or water utilities; waste water treatment plants; and nuclear power plants and work with infrastructure providers to assure that they are as prepared as
possible for Y2K.

Work with emergency relief organizations in the government and nonprofit sector to prepare for Y2K relief.

Build a coalition of schools and churches to provide shelter and food in the event of Y2K power outages or other major crises.

Convene a working group of community healthcare providers to develop a community-wide plan for responding to Y2K. Implement that plan.

Work with local facilities handling high-hazard chemicals to reduce the risk of Y2K-induced accidents at those facilities and to plan for any "worst case" accidents that do occur.

Convene a "community conversation" or series of community meetings to assess overall community preparedness for Y2K and develop an action plan to overcome the weaknesses that are identified. Implement that plan.

Produce a regular local radio, television or newspaper feature on local Y2K preparedness.
