Hmmph-I ALWAYS pay my fines and eventually return the books, but it was very sweet of you to think of protecting me. ANd there is a very definite system at our library. First they call a couple of times. Then they send out a notice. That's the farthest I've gotten. I lose books occasionally because I carry one with me everywhere for fear I'll be caught without something to read and die of boredom. I had a small suitcase stolen in SF on the way back from Hawaii; the thief must have been sorely disappointed- it had nothing in it but library books. It cost me over 100 at the library, though.
I do think the separation of a child from its mother should have been considered. THat's just wrong and stupid, the cost being far too high to society in too many ways.
