I think that may be true but good stocks are hard to find. It's
interesting to read books on investing which are not current to
see how the investing advice differs. I read a book written in 1991
which said that the stock market was pretty risky but you might
want to consider investing in utilities. 1991 would have been a
great year to invest in the market but utilities would have been
about the lowest performing stocks you could buy. Utilities are
starting to look interesting to me right now because if you add the
growth to the yield you could get a return of around 10% a year with
low risk, which is more than what I expect the market as a whole can
sustain over the next 5 years. Utilities are out of favour because of
the uncertainty over deregulation but if utility deregulation is
anything like telephone deregulation there shouldn't be too much for
the utility companies to wory about.
