The way things are now is that if you want AOL over ATHM you will have to pay $10 to AOL and $40 to ATHM each month. ATHM is resisting this solution and would prefer to block. I dont believe that to be true at all. ATHM is completely happy with the current situation. They have no preference to block access to aol, or yahoo or any other competitor. @home has always been dedicated to their definition of "open access" which is to allow the user set his home page however he wants and to go anywhere he wants on the web with his browser, including www.aol.com.
