westwoodguy is highly intelligent and should not be considered a hero or villian. He is either one heck of a poker player or he has a lot of muscle. I remember David Anderson on the THNK thread got a cult following because of the same strategy. He bluntly stated that he was buying, he had Big bad freinds buying, and that the stock would keep going up. It did for quite a while.
He had an army of believers because, simply, he was telling the truth. Then the next recommendation was RETX => VRTL and that was the bait&switch. People got murdered on that one and THNK eventually tanked as well.
This observation aside, I like westwoodguy and his posts, even if he is just jerking our chain. Somehow though, I don't think he is - yet.
Four things people this influential can do are(once they have attained a high level of cogency - and I believe this is the play that will earn him cult status):
1. Short, then say to the herd that the technicals have crumbled. 2. Say the technicals have crumbled and then buy on the ensuing dip 3. Talk about the imminent technical breakout and sell into the one you created by alluding to it 4. Buy and then pump the stock by pointing to the run you just created.
Donald Sew is the Phantom Menace, westwoodguy is the Emperor...clearly not to be messed with.
As scary as it sounds, I think he is telling the truth so far. My information leads me to believe we will, at a minimum, retest our 1996 high this year.
