I'd trust a jury properly instructed in law and the facts with free reign to make a just judgement. If the facts warrant leniency- a jury told it MUST follow the law as written can do unnecessary harm. There is a bit of the follower in all of us, and jury instruction should not lead us astray of the spirit of the law- ever. Juries should favor justice as per Constitutional principles rather than the letter of lesser laws. If fact, I do believe it was intended to be that way. I say let it be so. I would add that I have not looked into the Fully Informed Juries organization(or whatever it's called), but I gather I'd like what they are doing.
