Christopher, just dropping by for a second and not at all caught up on the progress of this thread. But I do want to say that I am in the main in agreement with you. I will add that the ceremonies for some of us (CB, are you with me here?) have great symbolism and add to the beauty and to the focus of the time we purposely set aside for God. When the ceremonies and minutiae become themselves the focus, they have usurped their purpose and deserve our scorn. As for all the other serendipitous moments, I am sure you would not be surprised by how often--whether it be watching a perfect dawn from a deserted shoreline or lying sweat-soaked next to the lover of my heart--I find myself reminded, "Lord, it is good that we are here."
