Ah Hutch - out of the woodwork I see - can you confirm that 'CBs bought gold because of fear of inflation'? CBs have owned gold for a long long time - they don't buy because of fear of inflation or sell because of fear of deflation. Individual investors may well do this - but RR made an unfounded statement to support a thesis, to fit a prejudice. CBs of younger nations bought gold as a reserve asset to catch up with the more established nations. Soon we'll see the counter attack - I wouldn't be surprised to see CBs buying in these auctions.
