David,
I doubt there is any way to get the errors from them at the
mint.
A lot of the common kid do turn up these days though. LIke
off center and blank planchets. Especially in the smaller coins
Most banks in our area seem to get there coin in from their
armoured car services who I think take care of all the rolling
these days.. So the ones that have big rolling departments do
turn up a lot of errors. Over the years We have been able to
buy lots of 50 or 100 of the common kinds for $1 or 2. Things
we then run in our ads for $$2.95 or so. Kind of neat conversation
pieces.
The neat ones are the ones struck on the wrong planchet.
Like a nickel struck on a cent or dime or?? The 1943 Copper was
in the news a couple weeks ago.. As usual the news media kind of
screwed up the story so dealers all over the country had 100's of
calls from people who thought they were goind to be rich..
One of the ways to test a 43 cent to see if it's copper or plated
steel is to see if it will pick up with a refrig. magnet. One of
the"bright" inquirers said you mean see if the penny will cling
to my refrigerator???
