KINGSTON ESTABLISHES RAMBUS VALIDATION LABS IN CALIFORNIA AND TAIWAN VALIDATION SERVICES TO RAMP IN Q3 KINGSTON TO FIRST OFFER RDRAM Validation; RDRAM RLC Parameter, RIMM Module, Continuity RIMM Module Validation Approval Expected Soon
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Jun 14, 1999 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Kingston Technology Company today announced the establishment of its Rambus(R) Validation Labs located in Fountain Valley, California, U.S.A. and in Hsinchu, Taiwan. In conjunction with Rambus Inc., Kingston's Rambus Validation Labs will offerthe following types of validation services: RDRAM(R) validation; RDRAM RLC parameter validation; and RIMM and Continuity RIMM Module Validation. Validated 600MHz, 700MHz, and 800MHz RIMM modules will become the main memory subsystem for the next-generation Intel PCs to ship later this year.
Rambus Inc. defined standardized procedures to verify component compliance to the Rambus specifications. The independent validation labs use these procedures to verify compliance to specifications, and enable the DRAM and memory module industry to support high-volume manufacturing of RIMM modules in time for PC shipments starting at the end of the third quarter.
Kingston Technology has been working with Intel Corporation and Rambus Inc. since March 1998 to develop expertise in RIMM module manufacturing and testing. RIMM modules utilize a high-speed, pipelined memory bus to achieve a peak bandwidth of up to 1.6 GB per second.
"Kingston's readiness to provide comprehensive RDRAM and RIMM module validation services is a key milestone in our Rambus Validation program, " explained Subodh Toprani, vice-president and general manager, Industry Enabling Division, Rambus Inc. "Kingston's Rambus Validation Labs in the U.S. and Taiwan will help major semiconductor manufacturers and PC OEMs verify RDRAM devices, and RIMM and Continuity RIMM modules, thereby assuring PC buyers smoother system integration and production ramp," continued Toprani.
As the leading independent manufacturer of memory modules, Kingston made an early and strategic decision to commit major resources to support next-generation memory technologies like Rambus' technology. "Our semiconductor and PC OEM partners requested Kingston to provide Rambus validation and manufacturing support worldwide, and our dual labs in the U.S. and Taiwan will help them complement their internal capabilities and achieve faster-time-to-market with next-generation products," said Al Soni, vice-president and general manager, Kingston Technology Services Division(KTSD).
Kingston has not only invested tens of millions in new manufacturing lines and high-end Hewlett-Packard and Advantest testers, but has also dedicated senior engineers to oversee all aspects of its Rambus program. "Establishing Kingston's Rambus Validation Labs further affirms Kingston's readiness to support the Rambus memory architecture worldwide," continued Soni. Kingston has already conducted thousands of RDRAM, PCB, and RIMM and Continuity RIMM module measurements for Rambus, Intel, and semiconductor manufacturers aswell as for Kingston's own production of Rambus memory products. In summary, Kingston will provide the following validation services: - RDRAM Validation in the U.S. -. RDRAM Physical Specification Validation (RLC) in the U.S.; -. RIMM Module Validation and Continuity RIMM Module Validation in the U.S. and in Taiwan.
