CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 1999--
Demonstration at Cable '99 Uses Broadcom's OpenCable(tm) Development Platform Running Excite@Home's TV Software

Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq:BRCM), a leading provider of integrated circuits enabling high-speed broadband communications to and throughout the home and business, and Excite@Home (Nasdaq:ATHM), the leading provider of high-speed Web services and open access to the Internet via the cable infrastructure, today announced that Broadcom's OpenCable(tm) Development Platform supports the Excite@Home TV Client Software Environment for Interactive TV and Internet browsing.

The Broadcom(R) BCM93714 OpenCable(tm) Development Platform running the Excite@Home TV Client software is being demonstrated by both companies at Cable '99 in Chicago this week, June 14 - 16. The demonstrations show Broadcom's silicon platform operating with Excite@Home's TV user interface, integrated with EnReach Technology's TV browser, running on top of the PSOS real time operating system. Connectivity to the Internet is provided by Broadcom's advanced cable modem technology resident on the BCM93714.

The demonstration also highlights the advanced graphics capability of the BCM93714, which incorporates the Broadcom BCM7014 Advanced 2D/3D TV Graphics Subsystem. This high-end graphics chip permits the display of studio-quality text and graphics on the TV needed for high-quality Internet browsing and the TV user interface.

"Excite@Home's TV Client Software highlights the advanced capabilities of our graphics solution," said Rich Nelson, Broadcom's Director of Cable TV Products. "This allows the consumer to receive high-quality text and graphics while using Excite@Home's broadband services."

"We are extremely excited about interactive TV services and Broadcom's work with its OpenCable Development Platform," said Jeff Huber, Excite@Home's Director of Set-Top Products. "Broadcom's comprehensive, interactive cable set-top box silicon solution is enabling us to have a wider acceptance of our software solutions within the marketplace. We are also very pleased with the high-quality TV experience we've seen from Broadcom's advanced graphics capability."

Broadcom's OpenCable silicon platform consists of the BCM3120 QAMLink(R) Set-top Box Transceiver, BCM3300 QAMLink Single-chip MCNS/DOCSIS Cable Modem, BCM7014 Advanced 2D/3D TV Graphics System, and BCM7010 Set-top Box Decoder. Silicon drivers have been incorporated into all of these chips to support Excite@Home's software.

The Broadcom BCM93714 OpenCable Development Platform is available today.
